Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I pay to join an online pickleball community?
Excellent question and one we have battled with since we launched the Pickleball Union brand.
There are a plethora of free facebook groups, subreddits, discords, and forums available - many of which we frequent and engage in. Individual members are active, passionate (often boisterous), helpful, and you will undoubtedly find your tribe.
But, the larger a community gets, the less value there tends to be for its growing membership.
Admins can't keep up with community management.
Algorithms optimize for engagement - favoring quantity, click-bait, toxicity, and rage, rather than quality, depth, and helpfulness.
Individual contributors garner more and more power & influence.
User interfaces don't allow for the community to adapt to member needs.
Small groups become more difficult to support.
Additionally, paid membership communities mean each member has skin in the game. Investing your hard earned money to join the tribe means you're more likely to lean into your membership, value yours and other members time, and contribute to the communities well-being. We want these types of members.
Lastly, our intention is to continuously invest subscription revenue back into the community - obviously we can't do that if it was free to join.
Who are your coaches?
When we launched PickleballUnion.com and the newsletter, we connected with a number of coaches who have helped us build a fantastic brand. Will East & Brady Burman-Magday, for instance.
But the benefit of a brand like ours is that we have, and will continue to, establish relationships with Certified Coaches, Pros, Physical Trainers, and other experts, who can be invited into the community to share their knowledge and experience.
Some you may see frequently, while others the occasional post or interview - but all will be focused on helping you achieve your goals on the pickleball court.
What platform is the community built with?
We had two priorities for where the community would live. First, it had to be SUPER simple to use. And second, it can't be a Facebook group.
So, we decided to launch on Skool, the perfect tool for the early version of Pickleball Union Pro.
Inside, you'll find an easy to navigate dashboard with purpose-built sections for video courses, discussions broken out by topic or small group, a calendar of events, member benefits, and a member directory.

How much do I need to participate?
As much, or as little, as you're comfortable!
Having participated and run online communities before, we understand that some members will be fanatically active while others remain lurkers. Both are welcome.

The Pickleball Union Pro video library will quickly become the largest pickleball training resource available - and your membership gives you ongoing access to each new asset.
What type of events will there be?
Webinar style events will be what we lean into most frequently. AMAs (Ask Me Anything) and topic driven discussions will allow for our coaches and guests to present prepared notes but also give members the chance to ask questions.
Based on schedules, we'll also look to supply coaches & experts with member questions and then share their recorded videos in the community.
Additionally, small group discussions will be held to allow members to connect, learn, celebrate, and share with each other.
While this community will be distributed across the country (and internationally), we absolutely have aspirations for in-person coaching, meetups, tournaments, and more...so expect to see some early tests to see what works best for members.
